The Anime Otaku needed a highly branded store at Westfield London, White City, bringing together manga, figurines, clothing and accessories with display areas, changing facilities, a point of sale and back-of-house space.
The concept, branding and design intent were provided by the client's design team. Our role as principal contractor was to take that design package and turn it into a finished store, within the operational and logistical requirements of one of the UK's busiest shopping centres.
The issued drawings were design intent, so we began with detailed site surveys and pre-contract reviews. We coordinated every fitting and feature with the existing building, including the retained fire lobby, track lighting, power and data, fire and emergency systems, HVAC, the shopfront and Westfield's landlord requirements.
In our Burntwood facility we manufactured the bespoke retail package: the sales and back counters, manga bookcases, an illuminated figurine display case, display tables, podiums and floating shelves, along with plywood graphic cut-outs, branded wall features and integrated storage.
On site, our teams delivered the electrical works, lighting, power and data, plumbing alterations, flooring and tiling, wall finishes and specialist cladding, ceiling-mounted features, illuminated signage, lightboxes and graphics, then installed the joinery and retail equipment, all under our own project management and site supervision.
Delivered in a four-week fit-out, the finished store is a bold, immersive retail space that brings the brand to life, handed over complete and ready to trade.
It shows exactly what we do best: taking a developed retail design and delivering it faithfully, with bespoke manufacture, specialist finishes and careful coordination in a demanding shopping-centre environment.
